Toadfish Divers headed down to San Carlos, Mexico for the Memorial Day Weekend. We met up with Alexander’s / Dive Shop, Too, and had a full boat.
Due to high winds coming in Saturday afternoon, we decided to spend the day, local-diving at Sand Dollar Heaven, and then to Zorro Beach. On Sunday, we did go to San Pedro Island, the first site was Bahia Elena, and the second site was The Rookery. We ended the weekend on Monday by going to the Diaz Ordaz Wreck, and for the second dive, to Palm Point. On Sunday, on the way to the island, we were followed by a pod of dolphins. On the way back to the marina, we saw Marlin and Mantas flying in the air! What a wonderful sight to see.
Depending on your depth, the water temperature ranged between 65 and 75 degrees. I’m sure glad I had my 3ml wetsuit with me. As always, the visibility at the island was fantastic! The Sea Lions came out to play, and even a Hawk’s Bill turtle was seen feeding. The big schools of fish are back at the island. You could swim through a bunch of King and Cortez Angel fish. We also found the swim through by The Rookery, and inside was an Angel Shark taking a nap.
We spent time catching up with old friends and making new friends throughout the whole weekend. We would go to Hammerheads for drinks, or at dinner to either Rosa’s Cantina or Los Arbolitos. Of course, we had to have our Thrifty Ice Cream!
A big thanks to the crew of the Cortez Explorer for taking care of us and providing a great meal each day. You help to make the excursions on the Sea of Cortez more memorable.
